FLY1 wants to contribute to pilot colleagues more often crossing borders between the four Nordic countries we have as our primary market: Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. A small step towards this goal is to understand aircraft terminology which is different across these four countries.

Although we have English as a common pilot language, we also use many words and expressions in our own languages ​​in various contexts. This can be an obstacle to good and safe communication across national borders. For example, the organization responsible for sports aviation in Norway is called “Norges Luftsportsforbund”, abbreviated as NLF. In Sweden, NLF is an abbreviation for “Nationellt Lätt Flygplan”, which in Norwegian is called “sportsfly”.
