Glossary
Glossary
FLY1 wants to contribute to pilot colleagues more often crossing borders between the five Nordic countries we have as our primary market: Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. A small step towards this goal is to understand aircraft terminology which is different across these five countries.

Although we have English as a common pilot language, we also use many words and expressions in our own languages in various contexts. This can be an obstacle to good and safe communication across national borders. For example, the organization responsible for sports aviation in Norway is called “Norges Luftsportsforbund”, abbreviated as NLF. In Sweden, NLF is an abbreviation for “Nationellt Lätt Flygplan”, which in Norwegian is called “sportsfly”.

Below we have collected some words, expressions and functions across national borders, which may be relevant in our Nordic world of aviation.

This is a start. We will expand this glossary over time.
