Savannah SR is currently the last edition of ICP's popular light sport aircraft. The improvements made in this edition makes Savannah both faster and more pleasant for her pilot.
A light sport ikon
The Savannah has over the years become something of an icon for many light aircraft pilots around the world. In particular for those who favour a sturdy, all aluminium aircraft with excellent STOL capabilities and maneuverability.
Even cooler
The Savannah has been drastically improved over the years, through a series of innovative redesigns since its first classic release. The vortex generators, a wider cabin, a smoother and more aerodynamic shape are some of the more prominent improvements.
ICP have produced approximately 1000 units of the Savannah S since its first market launch in 2010, accompanied by the slogan “Round is cooler”.
ICP have now revamped their popular Savannah again, based on inputs and requests from customers over several years. The result is a more refined Savannah – the Savannah SR. This illustration reveals some of these changes.
Perfect for Nordic conditions
In Norway, the weather often determines when we can fly, and most of us don’t have many aircraft in the hangar to choose from. When buying a plane, it is therefore important to choose the right one.
If you are particularly keen on long-distance flights, you may be tempted by a fast aircraft. On the other hand, these often have small and narrow wheels and not very good landing characteristics when it is a little windy. Often, the STOL characteristics are not much to brag about either. This means fewer days a year when you can get air under your wings and you miss out on many nice short grass strips that can be found all over Norway and in our neighbouring countries.
The ICP Savannah SR has flaperons, meaning that flaps and ailerons are combined into one single rudder on each wing. In combination with large surfaces on the rudder and elevator, this contributes to the aircraft being easily controllable even in unstable conditions. The Savannah SR has a demonstrated crosswind component of 26 knots! With a good and matching propeller, like the E-Props Durandal, a few raindrops is not a major obstacle either.
With an experienced pilot on board, this means that the Savannah can fly in pretty harsh weather conditions, while many other small aircraft have to stay on the ground. At the same time, it is also a comfortable and safe aircraft for long-distance flights. With long-range tanks, the Savannah SR has an endurance of around 8 hours!
Although she is a vigorous machine, created in the homeland of the Ferrari, the Savannah SR is in many ways a sports aircraft that is perfectly suited to Nordic conditions.
An ideal training aircraft
Even for less experienced pilots, the Savannah SR is a safe and stable aircraft. With dual sets of brake pedals installed, and preferably tundra wheels, the Savannah SR is an excellent club and training aircraft.
As I heard way too many times from my instructor during landing training:
Ready to fly or kit
You can choose whether you want to buy your Savannah SR fully assembled and ready to fly or as a kit for self-build.
The technical documentation has also been revised, and the entire aircraft and all of its components have been redesigned in 3D in order to standardize and improve the assembly manuals, the spare parts catalogue and all technical documents. This makes building a Savannah from kit easier than ever.
Design your own Savannah
The Savannah SR is delivered as standard with a center stick and nose wheel, but can also be supplied with two sticks and a tail wheel. You may also customize the dashboard according to your own preferences. Analog instruments are standard, but if you want, YOUR Savannah can have a full glass cockpit.
These and many more options allow you to adapt the aircraft to your own needs and personality. Always had a secret dream of a pink aircraft? You decide!
